Galley scheme

Ieri sera abbiamo preparato la cambusa: dosi eccessive, si lamenta Mauro!
In effetti, solo le razioni di frutta secca raggiungono il peso di mezzo chilo a testa, escluse le noci sgusciate e le banane essiccate... e le scorte per la prima colazione sono forse un tantino abbondanti rispetto al resto delle cibarie destinate al pranzo e alla cena... ma ricordando i manicaretti in scatola che riempiono gli scaffali dei mercati greci (involtini di riso in foglie di vite, polpette al sugo, melanzane, calamari e altre amenità), ci siamo convinti a partire con rifornimenti sufficienti per 4-5 giorni al massimo, eccezion fatta per le irrinunciabili razioni sottovuoto di cous-cous, che hanno invece il compito di sfamarci per almeno 15 notti!
Quindi: latte, orzo e caffè solubile, zucchero, biscotti, panetti, muesli, miele, cioccolata, succhi di frutta, barrette energetiche e fruttini... poi acciughe e sgombri in lattina, fagioli, fave, ceci e piselli in scatola, minestrone e pastina, sugo concentrato in tubetto, pastine liofilizzate di emergenza, olio e limone per condire sulla gretella il pesce che speriamo di pescare in abbondanza... le scorte industriali di rapala regalateci da Maurizio qualche tempo fa attendono pazienti di tornare nel mare greco e speriamo facciano un buon lavoro abbinate al filo di fluorocarbon da poco acquistato, ideale per il basso grado di rifrazione delle luce in acqua… Cos'altro? Semi di zucca per ammazzare il tempo e razione tascabile di grappa, che sarà però in breve sostituita dal pregiato raki locale!

Last night we prepared the galley: excessive doses, Mauro suggests!
To say the truth, only fruit's rations reach the weight of half kilo each, excpet for shelled walnuts and the dried bananas... and the escorts for the first breakfast are perhaps bit abundant in comparison to the rest of galley for lunch and dinner... but we still remember the delicious disches in the Greek markets (rice in grapevine leaves, eggplants, squids and other amenities), so we have stocks just for 4-5 days, except for the cous-cous! So: milk, coffee, sugar, biscuits, muesli, honey, chocolate, juyces, snacks... anchovies and clearances, beans and peas, minestrone and pasta, oil and lemon to cook the fishes we hope to fish... Whta more? Seeds of pumpkin and grappa, that will be shortly replaced by the appreciated local raki!

Siamo ormai agli sgoccioli, è cominciato il conto alla rovescia e aumentano incredibilmente le cose da fare!
Con piacere abbiamo letto stamani sul giornale locale "La Prealpina" un articolo sulla spedizione a Creta e volentieri lo riportiamo sul blog...

Maps and guides

E' cominciato lo studio matto e disperatissimo sulle carte e sulle guide.
Anzi, va avanti già da qualche settimana: mentre Mauro si diletta a trasferire sul GPS tutti i possibili punti di sbarco ricavati da Google Earth, sapendo di dover fissare i campi notturni ogni circa 30 km, io mi sto dedicando a spulciare le guide turistiche per riportare sulle carte tutte le possibili informazioni utili al viaggio.
E' un po' deludente constatare quanto tutte le indicazioni vengano date per visitare la terra da terra, neanche i portolani sembrano tenere conto dell'opposta prospettiva di viaggio che hanno i naviganti ed ogni cosa va analizzata al contrario: se la strada costiera è sterrata certamente non troveremo stabilimenti balneari, se invece la località turistica è rinomata allora sarà anche carica di locali notturni, decisamente poco indicati per trascorrere in tenda una notte tranquilla... e così via.
Quindi, lunghe ore di letture sono dedicate alla valutazione delle notizie raccolte, e molto spesso le parole inondano la carta per evidenziare punti cospicui o spiagge sabbiose o pareti scoscese.
E' un viaggio nel viaggio, anzi un viaggio prima del viaggio ed è forse uno dei momenti più emozionanti, quando i preparativi fervono e tutto deve ancora cominciare...

We're now involved in a crazy study of maps and guides.
Rather, it has been already going for a few weeks: while Mauro transfer on the GPS all the possible points to unload, helping by Google Earth and calculating the daily stop every around 15 n.m., I'm devoting myself to read the tourist guides to bring on the maps all the possible useful informations...
It is disappointing to ascertain how much all the indications are given for visiting the earth by the land and not from the sea, don't keep in mind of the opposite perspective of a sea kayak trip and every thing must be analyzed on the opposite view: if there is a famous place we certainly find a lot of tourists then it will be also a bad position of nighttime camp... and so on.
Then, long times of readings are devoted to the interpretation of the picked news, and the words very often flood the paper to underline conspicuous points or sandy beaches or steep walls.
It's a trip in the trip, better a trip before the trip and it is perhaps one of the most exciting moments, when everything has still comes...
